Indy CD & Vinyl is proud to announce its Grand Re-Opening Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, October 18–19, 2025 at its long-standing location on Broad Ripple Avenue. This celebration marks a major new chapter in the store’s 23-year history with the official unveiling of “The 808,” a new all-ages community stage and event space located next door at 808 Broad Ripple Avenue.
The weekend event will feature live music and DJs, including jazz music from Rob Dixon, electro-pop by local favorite Jennasen, indie rock by Sarah Grain + Friends, and DJs Boogie Bang, DJ MetroGnome, DJ Jay Diff, DJ Gino, DJ John Larner, DJ Alex Gonzalez, and many more! We are welcoming the community to explore both the updated record store and the brand-new venue. More than just a party, this event signals a powerful transformation — from tragedy and vacant space to a renewed center for music, connection, and creativity.
“We’ve always seen Indy CD & Vinyl as more than just a store — it’s a community space,” says co-owner Annie Skinner. “When the opportunity came to expand into the space next door, especially after the trauma and sadness that happened there, we felt called to turn it into something beautiful, inclusive, and meaningful.”
From Loss to Legacy: Reclaiming Space for the Community
In early 2024, the Broad Ripple neighborhood was shaken by a fatal shooting inside Landsharks, the bar next door to Indy CD & Vinyl. The tragedy led to Landsharks’ permanent closure, leaving behind another vacant retail space and a heavy cloud over the community.
“We were stunned and heartbroken,” the owners shared. “But after processing the loss, we realized we had a responsibility. We could either keep doing what we were doing — or we could step up and help redefine what this neighborhood could be.”
That decision sparked a bold vision: to expand Indy CD & Vinyl into the former Landsharks location, transforming it into “The 808,” a safe, vibrant, all-ages community hub. A year into renovations, the team discovered the space needed more than cosmetic updates — it needed to be rebuilt from the ground up. From electrical and plumbing to new walls, floors, HVAC, doors, and bathrooms, the space has been completely reimagined.
A Return to Roots — and a Future Reimagined
The pandemic and years of local construction had already strained the shop’s ability to host in-store performances and family events — once a defining feature of Indy CD & Vinyl. Its small in-store stage had seen performances from acts like Mumford & Sons, Death Cab for Cutie, Courtney Barnett, Jurassic 5, and Abigail Washburn, as well as hosting local non-profits like Girls Rock and Musical Family Tree. That stage — and those opportunities — were lost during COVID.
“We’ve missed being a space where kids could explore music, where local organizations could gather, and where fans could connect with artists up close,” say the owners. “The 808 brings that all back — and more.”
